Easy Branded Typography

(5-minute read)

Getting Started

Matching fonts can be impossible unless you have an eye for it. A rule of thumb is never to use more than 2 fonts unless you know what you are doing. An even easier way to pair fonts is not to do it at all. A simple cheat for creating an awesome typographic hierarchy is by using the same font with a large font family.

Common fonts come in 3 styles that you are familiar with including: regular, bold and italic. Other fonts contain as many as 16 font styles the same font family. By using the same font family for your header and body paragraph, they will end up blending beautifully with little effort. For example, see the headline and body copy below. The headline is bold and the body copy is regular. This creates a clear visual hierarchy separating the title from the paragraph text.
